What is a tummy tuck?

A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is an aesthetic procedure that can help you achieve a slimmer, more contoured abdomen if you’re at or near your ideal weight.

It’s important to note that a tummy tuck doesn’t help you lose significant weight. However, it may benefit you if you have excess skin around your belly after major weight loss, pregnancy, or childbirth.

You’re a good candidate for a tummy tuck if you’re in good health and not planning any future pregnancies (as they can alter your results).

At BeautyBlade Plastic Surgery, Dr. Hasan offers full tummy tucks (when you have excess skin around the entire abdomen) or mini tummy tucks (sagging skin in your lower abdomen or below your belly button).

What happens during a tummy tuck?

When you come in for a tummy tuck, you’ll be placed under general anesthesia. The procedure takes about two to five hours.

In a full tummy tuck, Dr. Hasan makes a long incision from hip to hip, just above the pubic hairline. He then makes another incision to free your belly button from surrounding tissue.

Dr. Hasan exposes the vertical muscles in your abdomen before pulling them close together to tighten the area and slim down your waistline. After, he removes any excess skin and creates a natural, new hole for your belly button. He finishes by stitching up your incisions, applying dressings, and placing a drain tube to remove any residual fluid from the surgical site.

During a mini tummy tuck, which is a less invasive procedure than a full tummy tuck, Dr. Hasan focuses on mid-belly fat.

What is it like to recover from a tummy tuck?

The recovery process typically lasts about eight weeks. You can return to normal activities after two weeks, but Dr. Hasan recommends avoiding strenuous activity until you receive clearance from him.

You’ll likely have noticeable scarring in the first three to six months following your tummy tuck. After about 9-12 months, these scars should lighten considerably.
